crime lord Logan Ahern

Name: Logan Ahern
Theme: Strength isn’t power — it’s survival. The weak are meat, and the strong do eat.
Age: 42
Archetype: magician
Class: radical/crime lord
Religion: tentative Christian
Money: 1000
Taxes: 50
Lives: 3
Resistance: 4
Equipment: baton, poison
Special:

  • Tentative Christian: at least once per game go to confession.
  • Paranoid: your paranoia is mainly about roleplay, but it has a mechanical advantage. Firstly, you cannot be poisoned. Secondly, you cannot be attacked sneakily. If someone give you a jump attack (it means, hit you before you ever realise you are in a fight), the first hit doesn’t count. This doesn’t work, if you are openly in fight, or if you are hit by a magic or a gun.
  • Debts: Bradley Harrington pays you £100 to you every taxes for protection, and to honor your cooperation. As an exchange, you are providing him protection services, eliminating his enemies, etc.
  • Poison: If the poison is ingested (it must actually be drunk), the character loses 1 point of resistance every 15 minutes until they die (the poison has no effect beyond death). The person who administered the poison must report the incident to a game organizer, who will then inform the affected player of the effects and symptoms (or provide them with a note). The poison’s effect begins only from the moment it is reported—it does not apply retroactively. To make another one, you need to purchase it from organiser for 100 pounds.
  • Accounting ledger (evidence): you have it with you as a proof of your money operation from Bradley Harrington. If needed, you can destroy it, but you are not eager, because you can use it as a leverage against him, if necessary.
  • Money is power: the crime-lord who holds the most money at the end of the game will win dominance in the Aetherwick.
  • Drugs price: every package of drug held in the end of the game can be turned into 500 pounds at mayor. Every package is composed of 10 shots.
  • Drug shot: drug shot grants you euphoria, insatiable urge for sex (roleplay effect), as well as 4 points of resistence for 1 hour. Whoever takes drug once needs to take drugs again within next 4 hours (apart from sleeping), or looses 1 point of resistence. Whoever takes 2 drug shots within 1 hour of time, immediately looses 1 life.
  • Weapons: you can sell weapons (10 pieces), if the prices is right (through mayor).
  • Fresh corps: Bruno Turner is willing to buy a fresh corpses from you. Fresh corpse must be delivered to you after it dies. It must be NPC, or a player who lost all its lives.
  • Goons: Whenever needed, you can purchase up to 2 Goons per action (NPCs, under the condition they are available). Cost of one is 100 pounds.

If you want a good game, you go to Logan Ahern (42). He has style. He has resources. And soon, he’ll have you too. Lose once in his establishment, and you’re doomed to lose everything. Or maybe it’s worse when you win—because that’s when you get hooked. And once you’re hooked, loss is inevitable.

You have a quick hand and a quicker mind. That’s how you slipped poison into your former boss’s coffee. The king is dead—long live the king.

That’s how it works in this world: the strong devour the weak. And it’s only a matter of time before someone devours you. Maybe it will be Samuel Fidget, your right hand, who’s bound to betray you one day. You’re at peace with that thought. But still, you do everything to prevent it—because otherwise, you’d be weak. And weakness has no place at the top. But you enjoy the game. It’s its own nature. And you need a right hand.

Because life at the top is lonely.

Street Rat

Who knows what kind of whore your mother was—you barely remember anything, except for old Grumpy, who looked after you and the other orphans. He gave you a roof… and beat you if you didn’t bring enough money. That was life. And if you grow up knowing nothing but the fight, you become one tough bastard. You were determined to be the toughest. There was no room for tears. Not yours, anyway.

You became faster than the others. Stronger. Smarter. Trickier. Craftier. At seventeen, you killed Grumpy and took over. You became the king of the street rats.

There were other gangs in Aetherwick. You gathered people. You waged war. Until you caught the attention of a local crime mastermind. He liked the fire in your eyes. You rose quickly through his ranks, became his right hand…

Then you poisoned him. And took his place.

Allies and Competitors

One of your most profitable alliances was with merchant Bradley Harrington. Back when he was a struggling businessman entering a tough market, he asked for help a crime lord. He asked you. You helped him eliminate the competition. Early on, that meant murder. Later, you needed to be more discreet.

His main competitors in recent years were McMillan and the Darts family.

Hughie McMillian had a wife. But that girl was into you, and right after she slept with Hughie, she ran to you to sleep with you. Yet, soon she understood she meant nothing to you, and stopped coming. She got a daughter. Taking in account when her kid was born… damn, it might have easily been your daughter.  She came to you after 2 years of the marriage, desperate, that her husband is religious fanatic and despotic dictator. She told you she faked her virginity in the wedding bed. She asked for money to run away. You gave her some as an exchange for sleeping with you. She also asked you to take care of her baby. “It could be your daughter,” she said. But you laughed at her. You were no charity. That was 20 years ago.

Both you and Harrington hoped that McMillan would fall into despair after disappearance of his wife. And he did, for a while. But after while, instead of falling into alcoholism, he turned into a workaholic machine—driven and dangerous. In a while, he became a real problem. Thankfully, lately, your right hand Samuel Fidget found a solution recently: he said he could make McMillan fall sick.

And he did. How? You have no clue. Maybe some poison. He didn’t tell you. All he asked you is to reveal him one secret, as it was necessary for his success, and you told him you slept with Hughie’s wife. You still would like to know how he achieved what he did, because you could use it against other competitors as well.

As for the Darts, you asked Samuel to make sure their boat sank—with the whole family aboard.  Well… not the whole family. One son, Arthur Dart, wasn’t present. He was an outcast, send to convent. But after the dead of the family, he took over family heirloom. But he knows nothing of business and doesn’t seem to care.

Samuel Fidget

Samuel was a cutthroat who used to haunt the streets of Aetherwick—until you took him under your wing.

He was fifteen when you met him for the first time. He tried to steal from you. You grabbed his hand. You looked into each others eyes for a while and you saw madness in its depth. So you let him go. But he followed you. Once, he tried to sneak at you in the night, but you woke up. Your senses were keen, and you lived like a lion in a jungle. No one can get you unprepared. Samuel run away. He didn’t dare to stand against you in a fair fight.

But he has his own demons. Once, you stood out of the door of your den, there was Samuel Fidget, hald dead, lying in front of them. So you called Bruno Turner, a doctor who was treating your goons, and he put Samuel together. He admitted he attacked one man, Arnold Shea, and lost. Soon after doctor put him together, he disappeared. Following an instinct, you let your goons figure out where Arnold Shea lives, and you head that direction. You found Samuel Fidget, dying, nearby his house. You took care of him for the again, but this time you made him to give you gave him a choice: “You can work for me, but you have to promise, you won’t attack anybody unless I order you so. Or I will kill you right now.”

”I will,” he answered. “But one day, I will attack you.”

“I know,” you said. That’s how you became your right hand man.

One could ask why to keep the man who promised to kill you at your side? Well, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. And, there is a thrill in it. His presence keeps you sharp.

Doctors

Crime is dangerous. Your men need doctors. Until recently, you relied on Bruno Turner. Bruno is a peculiar man, very intellectual, extremely skilled, very arrogant, and cold. Obsessed with his craft. Expensive. But he was always willing to give you discount, or pay you nicely for a fresh dead body to study. His researches are mostly illegal, but  they might be one of the reasons why he is so good.

Lately, though, a new name appeared on a block. Ruby Conray, a doctor from America. Your goons find her by accident, running away from a meeting with a cops, bleeding, dying… She put them together, and much cheaper then Turner. So you have decided to stick with her. Ruby despises crime, but is not as arrogant as Turner. Turner doesn’t judge anything you do, but can be annoying nevertheless. Plus, there is one risk factor: Turner is sometimes buying drugs from you. You don’t know if he is using, or doing something else with them.

Police

Your greatest adversary in the police force is Liam Conolly. Funny enough, that kid used to run with your gang. You liked him—he was tough and smart. But something happened. He changed sides. Now he busts your balls every chance he gets. And he’s good at it.

Hazard

Your main income comes from illegal gambling.

Recently, a major game took place. Sir Waverly Scott—ex-war hero, gambler, and drunk—was there. He’s been banned from every respectable establishment in Aetherwick, so he’s forced to play with you. The table also had Arthur Dart, sir Early Clubb, Bradley Harrington, and Bishop Columbus Ede. Scott lost the game.

You loaned him £500 to cover his losses. You gave him a week. Time’s up. Maybe you should persuade him to collect your fortune. If it won’t be possible otherwise, you could kidnap his daughter or wife.

The Game of Aetherwick

The game is set. Your biggest rival is Merrill Collins, and her right hand Claudia Knight. You’re both fighting for control of the drug trade. A major shipment of opium is coming—brought by the Chinaman (NPC). The question is: Can you get your hands on it before she does?

Crumbling faith

In all you are doing, sometimes you wonder about god. True is, you are quite confused by it. On one side, you hear “eye for an eye” which makes sense to you, on another level you hear “love thy enemy” which doesn’t make a sense at all. You were never much on going to church, only when you were cold and needed a place where to warm yourself up when you were younger. Later on you didn’t have time for it at all. But once in a while, you go to random priest to confess. You just share anything you want. You know they cannot let it out, and it is good to have an ear that listens.

Dream of an empire

You are growing old. You never married. But sometimes you ask yourself if there couldn’t be something else. Something bigger then you. Old kings managed it, and build an empires. Why couldn’t you built an empire of your own? If you would only manage to join forces with Merrill in way or another. Instead of two lions trying to kill each other… there could be a murderous couple ruling over the rest. King, and his queen. In one way… or another.

Bradley Harrington (merchant, 42)
When he was a young businessman, he struggled. So he paid you to get rid of his competitors. It resulted in a long-term partnership. He pays you a dirty money every, and you take care of his problems.

Merrill Collins (Crime Lord, 42)
Your main competitor in the criminal underworld. Dangerous woman. You respect her ruthlessness—but you know one of you has to fall, and you plan to make sure it’s not you.  You’re currently fighting over control of the drug trade in Aetherwick. But maybe, there might be another way. Instead of was… there could be alliance, and unification.

Claudia Knight (22)
Merrill’s right hand. She treats her like a daughter, sometimes you wonder if there is something else among them.

Hughie McMillian (Merchant, 55)
You have no formal relationship with him, but you did sleep with his wife. Hughie is a hard-working, religious man and a harsh patriarch. Samuel Fidget somehow arranged his sickness, which is holding him back greatly lately.

Sir Waverly Scott (Lord, 52)
A once-glorious war hero, now reduced to a drunk and gambling addict. You lent him 500 pounds during a high-stakes game, and the debt is long overdue. If he doesn’t pay soon, you’re considering kidnapping his wife or daughter as collateral.

Columbus Ede (Bishop, 45)
A self-styled holy man who spends far too much time in your gambling dens. He’s cheerful, charismatic, and hypocritical—qualities you find oddly entertaining. You don’t trust him, but you like having him around. Blackmail material, perhaps?

Arthur Dart (Merchant, 30)
A spoiled, clueless heir. On Harrington wish, you arranged the death of his entire family by letting Samuel to orchestrate a boat “accident.” He doesn’t seem to know or care of the business, wasting his fortune at your gambling tables. You keep him close—he’s rich, naive, and easy to manipulate.

Liam Conolly (Detective, 30)
He used to run with your street gang as a kid, and you respected his brains and grit. Now he’s a detective and one of your fiercest enemies. He still treats you like an old friend—but that doesn’t stop him from trying to bring you down at every turn. A real thorn in your side.

Samuel Fidget (22)
Your right hand. A cold-blooded killer with no moral compass—perfect for the dirty work. You found him on the streets, recognized his potential, and shaped him into a weapon. You trust him more than anyone else… which is still not at all. You suspect he’ll betray you eventually, and you’re already planning for it. He’s a useful tool. For now.

Bruno Turner (Doctor, 40)
A brilliant surgeon with the conscience of a corpse. You supply him with bodies for his research, and he gives you discounts. It’s a business relationship built on mutual amorality—and that suits you just fine. You both understand that people are just meat.

Ruby Conray (Doctor, 30)
Despite her being a woman, you find Ruby competent, sharp, and much more affordable than Turner. You’ve started to rely on her services more and more.

Arnold Shea (25)
You don’t know much about him, but you know Samuel tried to kill him, and failed. At least twice. You are getting curious to get to know him better.

1. Bradley Harrington rose to power thanks to you eliminating his competitors.
You orchestrated the downfall of his rivals—some were killed, others ruined through more subtle means.

  • Knows: You, Samuel Fidget, Bradley Harrington
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: The police, the public, any remaining competitors, especially McMillian (if he recovers).

2. You slept with Hughie McMillian’s wife and gave her money to run away.
In return for helping her escape her controlling husband, she gave you her body.

  • Knows: You, the wife (long gone), possibly Merrill, Samuel Fidget.
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: Hughie McMillian

3. Hughie’s daughter might be actually yours.
Shortly after her marriage, Hughie’s wife had a sex with you. So Hughie’s daughter might be very well yours.

  • Knows: You, the wife (long gone)
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: Hughie McMillian

4. You arranged for Hughie McMillian to fall ill.
His resilience became a threat to your business, so Samuel “helped” him get sick. It worked.

  • Knows: You, Samuel Fidget, Bradley Harrington
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: Hughie, police

5. You arranged for Dart’s family to die
On Harrington’s wish, you asked Samuel Fidget to arrange an “accident” so the whole Dart’s family drawn in a boat.

  • Knows: You, Samuel Fidget, Bradley Harrington
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: Arthur Dart, police

6. Sir Waverly Scotts owns you money
He borrowed money from you, and lost them in a game of your making.

  • Knows: You, Arthur Dart, Early Scott, bishop Columbus Ede, merchant Bradley Harrington
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: police, Scott’s family

7. Bishop Columbus Ede is playing hazard illegally in your dens and is rotten to the core
It is not proper for a bishop to do such a things… especially since he is pretending to be a holy man.

  • Knows: You, Arthur Dart, Early Scott, merchant Bradley Harrington, possibly others
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: police, Church representatives, public

8. Bruno Turner is buying drugs
He is one of your customers… even though you have no clue if he is taking the drugs, or using them for another purposes.

  • Knows: You, Bruno Turner
  • Shouldn’t Find Out: police, public

1. Build a Criminal Empire
You want to rise beyond being a powerful figure—you want to rule. To create a true criminal empire. But how?
If you manage to seize control of the drug trade, you could grow far stronger than Merrill Collins and take her down.
Or perhaps there’s a path in unification. If Claudia were to marry Samuel… or if you were to marry Merrill herself… maybe a union could bring dominance through alliance. Risky, but clever.

2. Secure Your Position
Samuel Fidget is dangerous. You like him, but you know he could turn on you in a heartbeat. You must find a way to stay one step ahead. Replace him? Bind him closer with loyalty or fear? Or… find someone who could kill him if needed? Maybe Arthur Shea? You should talk to that man. Your survival depends on it.

3. Collect from Sir Waverly Scott
Sir Scott owes you 500 pounds. The deadline has passed. Perhaps a gentle reminder is in order. Or maybe something less gentle—kidnapping his daughter or wife could make him pay attention.

4. Learn how Samuel Fidget got Hughie sick
Knowing that could give you a great advantage towards your enemies.
