Bishop Columbus Ede (45) is a bishop of Aetherwick. As the head cleric of the city, he is great orator. He is also jolly, warm, and friendly—but only to those of a certain status. He has no time to waste on the poor.

To some people, life can be very generous. You are one of them.
Mostly because you’ve always known how to help yourself. You were clever. When mischief was to be done, you made sure someone else got caught. When you wanted something, you lied and manipulated your way to it.

Sinners in Paradise

You sought entrance to the seminary not out of faith, but ambition. You saw how well the city priest lived, and you wanted the same comforts. It was never about God. You’ve never believed. You’re an agnostic at best—too clever for that kind of nonsense, yet too lazy and selfish to forge a different path.

Pleasure bored you eventually. You began seeking darker delicacies. That’s how you developed a taste for young boys, and later, young men. You were never a victim; you were far too calculating to fall into someone else’s snares. But when you grew older and gained power in the seminary, you started using it.

One of your favorite “roses in the garden” was Arthur Dart, a charming and defiant young man from a rich merchant family. Oh, what that twisted little thing could do with your bloated body. You even fell for him, in your own way. You still find yourself reminiscing.

Saints in Hell

Most priests are like you—opportunists and hypocrites, using the church’s power to cushion their own lives. But there are exceptions. One of those bleeding hearts is Elliot Gregory, a priest from Aetherwick, who was in the seminary at the same time as you and Arthur Dart. And he saw. He saw you take Dart to your chambers. You’ve treated him kindly ever since, but with a patronizing air. Still, a part of you fears what he might do with that knowledge. A whisper from him at the wrong time could bring it all crashing down.

The Hellfire Club

After settling in Aetherwick, you began building a network to protect yourself. First on the list was Merrill Collins, a crime-lord who supplies you discreetly with girls—or boys. But a true decadence was introduced to you by Lady Muriel Clubb, leader of the local Hellfire Club, a secret society devoted to Satanic worship and debauchery.

Lady Muriel was thrilled to have you join—a bishop worshipping the devil is a delightful scandal. Her husband, the beautiful Early Clubb, also participates. You long to sleep with him, but he doesn’t seem open to your “forms of pleasure.”

Sometimes, Claudia Knight, Merrill’s adopted daughter, joins the gatherings. She’s a commoner, but so striking you often imagine her on her knees before you. You’ve noticed she’s religious—perhaps that can be turned to your advantage.

The peak of your crimes was when she brought a little girl to be an altar during a Satanic mass, and you, Earl and other men present raped her one by one. At the end of the orgy, the girl was dead. After that incident, a chief of police Neil Johnson had joined the club, and nothing so devious was ever repeated.

The Scott Family Tree

Lady Isabella Scott is another beauty—a married woman who regularly cheats on her husband. You’d love to bed her. Her husband, Sir Waverly Scott, a war hero, is a drunk and a gambler. You last saw him at an illegal gambling den run by Logan Ahern, alongside Bradley Harrington, Early Clubb and Arthur Dart. He lost heavily. Ahern will come for payment soon.

Their daughter, Victoria Scott (16), is the real prize: an innocent blossom in your parish you would love to corrupt.

Mechanical factory

Bradley Harrington, meanwhile, is set to unveil a machine meant to replace human labor in his factory. He paid you handsomely (500 pounds) to publicly bless it upon its launch. You agreed.

Golden Vein

Another prominent merchant, Hughie McMillan (55), is possibly the most devout man in Aetherwick. His generous donations to the church have helped make you a wealthy man. If only he knew what his money paid for… Lately, he fell sick, and he might be dying. That’s great, because he has no family and no one to inherit his fortune. Now, if you could only persuade him to leave all his fortune to the church… or even better, to you!

Protection

Your most valuable connection in the city is Neil Johnson (45), the Chief of Police and a fellow member of the Hellfire Club. He can make problems disappear.

The Vatican Threat

One man could ruin everything: Silas David (25), a Vatican inquisitor sent to Aetherwick. A fanatical zealot, more dangerous than the saintly types like Gregory. He has no authority over you—nor you over him—but he has connections in the Holy See. If he whispers your name into the wrong ears, it’s over.

You don’t know why he’s here. Is he hunting you? Or something else? You may need to find out—and if necessary, deal with him. But doing so risks attracting Vatican attention, which is the last thing you want.

Under Your Protection

Your decadent lifestyle is catching up with you. Your health is failing, so you rely on Dr. Bruno Turner (40). He’s an atheist and unpleasant, but undeniably skilled. A necessary ally. You are eating pills from him to prevent the sickness taking you away.

Political Stance

You’re an atheist who climbed to the height of religious power. You believe in maintaining the status quo at all costs—especially when it comes to women. If they rise to equality, your power crumbles. You won’t let that happen.

Arthur Dart (Merchant, 30)
Your ex-lover and fellow member of the Hellfire Club. You’re still in love with him—though you’d never admit it aloud—and secretly hope to rekindle the fire between you.

Elliot Gregory (Priest, 35)
The saintly golden boy of Aetherwick. Technically, he’s beneath you in rank, and you treat him with thinly veiled condescension. But he’s also a dangerous liability: you know he saw you take Arthur Dart into your private chambers back at the seminary. You fear he might still remember—and that he might talk. He’s one of the few who acts on true faith, which makes him both naive and unpredictable.

Merrill Collins (Crime Lord, 42)
You have a well-functioning business relationship. You pay her generously, and she supplies you with discreet company—male or female. Ruthless, calculating, and always in control, she respects your power but would sell you out in a heartbeat if the wind changed. You’re also sexually intrigued by her—and the daughter she’s raising.

Muriel Clubb (lady, 34)
Elegant, sharp, and cruelly amused by your hypocrisy. She welcomed you into the Hellfire Club with a devilish grin, loving the irony of a bishop worshipping Satan. She’s dangerous—but you enjoy dancing near her fire. You suspect she holds a strange, twisted power over both you and her husband.

Sir Early Clubb (Nobleman, 33)
Husband of Muriel, and possibly the most beautiful man in Aetherwick. He always seems half-lost in her shadow, submissive and secretive. You desire him—desperately—but he seems unaware or uninterested. You’re considering seducing him through his wife, or at least breaking whatever spell she has over him.

Claudia Knight (22)
The right hand of of Merrill Collins… and possibly her lover. Young, striking, and strangely devout—a fascinating contradiction. You often dream of corrupting her, perhaps even alongside Merrill. Her religiosity might be her weakness, one you could exploit to bring her under your control.

Isabela Scott (34)
Another member of the Hellfire Club. A married woman, utterly unfaithful, and bored with her noble life. You’ve slept with many like her—but not her yet. She’s on your list. Her vanity and loneliness make her an easy target.

Victoria Scott (16)
Isabela’s daughter, and an intoxicatingly innocent blossom. She attended your parish for years. You watch her bloom from a distance, sick with longing. You know she’s off-limits—legally, socially, even among your peers—but temptation creeps in with every passing day.

Sir Waverly Scott (lord, 52)
Victoria’s father, Isabela’s husband. A washed-up war hero turned drunkard and gambler. Though he’s long since lost his former power, you remain outwardly respectful. His presence is more pitiful than threatening—but his disgrace reflects the crumbling structure you both rely on.

Hughie McMillan (Merchant, 55)
The most devout man in Aetherwick, and one of your largest donors. He has unknowingly bankrolled your luxury, vice, and corruption. You feign admiration and gratitude, and he basks in the illusion of being close to God. If he ever found out the truth, it would ruin you. He seems to be sick lately, and is possibly dying.

Neil Johnson (Chief of Police, 45)
A discreet member of the Hellfire Club, and one of your most important allies. He can make investigations vanish, keep victims silent, or remove threats. So long as he stays loyal—and paid—you are untouchable in the eyes of the law.

Silas David (Priest, 25)
A Vatican inquisitor and exorcist. Young, but terrifyingly devout. His presence unsettles you deeply. He can’t command you, but his connections in the Holy See are stronger than yours. If he suspects your sins, one whisper from him to the right ear and you could loose everything. And the worst part? You don’t know why he’s really here.

Dr. Bruno Turner (40)
Your private physician. Brilliant, blunt, and thoroughly godless. He despises the Church but respects your money and power. Despite his arrogance, you need him—your health is decaying from years of indulgence. He keeps your body going, but sometimes, you suspect he knows more than he lets on.

Logan Ahern (Crime Lord, 42)
You frequent his underground gambling dens to indulge in your less… ecclesiastical hobbies.

1. Seduce Claudia Knight
You want her. You want her kneeling before you, eyes wide, lips trembling, all that religious innocence ruined just for you. But you’re not stupid. Merrill Collins raised that little beauty like a daughter, so if you do something she wouldn’t like, you are done for.

2. Seduce Victoria Scott
Sweet little cherry ripe for plucking. So full of life, so unaware. Her mother’s a slut, her father’s a drunk. No one would miss her virtue. But if Waverly Scott finds out, even in his state, he’ll put a bullet in you. And if the press gets a whiff, your head’ll roll.

3. Milk Hughie McMillan dry
He’s your golden calf. The most religious bastard in the city, and also the richest. He thinks he’s giving money to God’s cause. And in a way, he is. You are God in this city. You’ll take every penny and use it to feed your sins. But if he learns the truth—your atheism, your Hellfire club membership—it’s over. You’ll be crucified, not metaphorically.

4. Find out what Silas David is doing here
That creepy little fanatic didn’t crawl into Aetherwick for nothing. Is he sniffing around your past? Your secrets? Arthur? You need to know. And if he is here because of you… well, maybe he has to go. But very, very quietly. Because if one inquisitor dies, Rome will sends ten more.

5. Get Arthur Dart back in your bed
You still dream of him. That mouth, those hips, the way he called you a bastard while moaning your name. He was the best thing you ever had, and you’re not done. Not even close. You want him back. Want to own him again. And this time, keep him. No matter what it costs.

6. Crush the feminist movement before it’s too late
You see it coming. The wave of skirts and screaming mouths, all full of ideas and books and equality. If they rise, you fall. You know it. A woman with power is a woman who can judge you, punish you, expose you. That can’t happen. Push them back into kitchens, beds, or asylums. Whatever it takes.

7. Stay alive
Your health is failing. Your body is a bloated, decaying temple of vice. Bruno Turner’s the only one who can keep you breathing and functioning. He is atheist, and laud one, but he’s useful. Keep him close, keep him paid, and pray he doesn’t do anything stupid.
