Liam Conolly (30) is an inspector for 4 years. Those days changed him. He is grumpy. He is ruthless. But he knows how to walk in it. He understands there is no right or wrong, but still, he is doing what he can to be helpful .

As a kid, you were a scoundrel. Thieving. Lying. Life was hard for a street urchin with no parents. 

In the age of 10, you were part of a street gang of Logan Ahern who was making his name in the street in that time, and you were quickly raising in rank, because you had a fire in your heart no one could quench.  

In the age of fifteen, you were almost Logan’s right hand. There was a prostitute in that time who you loved dearly and wanted to fuck – Merrill Collins. But when you came to her with money, she only laughed at you, sending you back to your mother and coming back when you grow some balls. Your young ego couldn’t take her, and you boasted you will do anything for you. She said she needs something – a small girl. You knew about one girl who was playing in the streets around, so you grab your friends, and brough her to Merrill, and was rewarded with a fuck which – as you felt – truly made you a man. You didn’t know what she needed that little girl for. You didn’t event know her name. That you learned only a week later, when she was found dead – raped, multiple times, floating in water. Her name was Alice Donaldson. 

Something broke in you that day. You were no stranger to pain and suffering, but knowing you doomed a life of someone so young… 

You went to the church and found a young priest, to whom you said everything what happened. “There is no way I can atone for it,” you said. 

“No,” he replied. “But you can do your best for righting the wrong in the others.”

His name was Elliot Gregory (35), and his words pushed you to become a policemen. 

Police years

It was a long journey from a criminal to policeman but four years ago, you have finally become a detective. But you grew even more bitter than ever before. Soon you understand the justice isn’t righting the wrong, but you also saw the miserable deeds the desperate ones are capable of… and understood there is no god, there is no higher justice, there is just bunch of miserably people trying to do their best. In your own way, you are attempting the same, but you feel very well how often you are failing. You are still going for attornment to the Elliot Gregory. Not because you would be seeking a forgiveness, it just makes you good to speak with someone about everything you see. 

Chief and colleague

The chief of police, Neil Johnson (45), is a decent man. You are pretty sure he is corrupted, because he is way too rich, and he has way too good contacts with the noble ones, but you don’t blame him. If he wouldn’t let rich to get away with what they are doing, he wouldn’t be in his position for a long, long time, and you personally have never seen  him doing something truly bad. As much as he can, he is trying to help (at least that is your estimation)… just like you. Sometimes, you piss him off because of you “shoot first, ask later” style, but you have learned that is the most effective way for getting answers, and keeping your life intact. 

You also have a new colleague. Mitchel Donaldson (25), a brother of little Alice Donaldson. You are both tormented by the feeling of guilt, and hardened enough to be able to walk with it. You are trying to teach that young buck how to do his job without getting himself killed, but he is not very perceptive, constantly babbling about “presumption of innocence” and similar bollocks you don’t give a shite about. As far as you are concern, nobody is innocent, and you would glee in finding some flaw in that annoying knight on the white horse. In the same time, you are doing your best to protect him. As if you would feel some obligations. You took a life of his sister, so you need to protect his.  No matter the cost. 

A young love

Recently, your path crosses with a very interesting woman. Ruby Conray (30). She is your age, a daughter of doctor who was killed many years ago. She went to USA for studies to become a doctoress, and return back here to practice it. She is very loving and caring, helping the poor as much as she can, even though she is almost broke herself. Well, not as much as you. She took care of you once when you were hurt, you flirted with her, and soon you were dating her. 

Second doctor

Up until now, you were treated by a doctor Bruno Turner (40), an arrogant and expansive man, but since your care is paid by government, he always provided a good service. But that rigid man has no scruples, and he will kick out of his door anyone who can’t pay. 

Crime bosses

There are two main players in the Aetherwick.

Merill Collins (42), your childhood love, made a name for herself, took over the prostitute business, and she is also trying to smuggle drugs. Her right hand is a Claudia Knights (22). As far as you know, she was taking care of that kid since she was young, but is not her mother. 

And then, there is Logan Ahern (42), who dominated city hazard, and his right hand Samuel Fidget (22). 

You are having very explosive relationship with all of them, as you interrupted their businesses many time, but never manage to take them down. They both respect you, hate you, play with you, are friendly with you… sometimes it feels like they are both your bets friends and enemies. Somehow, it feels their existence is giving your life a meaning. What would you be if you wouldn’t be fighting with them? What would you be for in this world if you wouldn’t fight crime? Maybe you should get married, but since you didn’t have a family yourself, it is hard for you to imagine to become a father.  

The only friend

You guess your only true friend is a Grace Shea (20), a woman you saved when she was young from getting raped. She was too young for you, so you never developed a sexual relationship with her, but somehow, you became friends, and you were very happy when she married Arnold Shea (25), a hard working man form the community. Arnold has a good voice, and people listens to him. He is also law abiding, and doing his best to make everything works.  

Logan Ahern (crime boss, 42)
Stern man with a nasty sense of humor. You saw what he is capable of, and killing is as natural as breathing for him. But ever since he reached a certain position, he is very careful not to get caught at anything illegal.

Merrill Collins (crime boss, 42)
Impressive, yet terrifying. You never forget on that only night with her. But you also can’t forgive her what she did to that little kid, Alice Donaldson… and on the role you played in her death.

Elliot Gregory (priest, 35)
A good man who does his best to help the community. You come to confess to him quite often, but you never pray the prayers he asks you to. That’s ok. You know he is praying for you.

Neil Johnson (chief of police, 45)
A decent man. Possibly corrupted, sometimes you are making his life a living hell, but you never saw him doing anything really nasty.

Mitchel Donaldson (detective, 25)
Your colleague, and bloody knight on the white horse, who is believing the law is above all, all women are innocent and in need of protecting, and in general, you are afraid he will get you both killed. And you will do maximum to keep him alive, even if it would mean your own neck would ended up on the guillotine.

Ruby Conray (doctor, 30)
You might actually love her. Should you propose her a marriage?

Bruno Turner (doctor, 40)
Annoying arrogant prick, but he has a reason to be, because he is really good. But you wouldn’t mind to see him pay a bit.

Samuel Fidget (22)
Right hand of Logan Ahern, and you are afraid he might be even worse than his boss… because he is the one who is doing the most of the killings lately, about that you are sure.

Claudia Knights (22)
Right hand of Merrill Collins. You used to like that kid… but she is doing her best to be a good daughter to her adoptive mother. Sometimes you wonder if there is still a hope for her. There was a hope for you, wasn’t there?

Grace Shea (20)
Good girl. You wish to be of help to her. Your only real friend. She has two years old daughter now.

Arnold Shea (25)
A good hard working man, and an unofficial head of the Aetherwick community of the poor.
