…the Lotus-eaters did not plan death for my comrades, but gave them of the lotus to taste. And whosoever of them ate of the honey-sweet fruit of the lotus, had no longer any wish to bring back word or to return, but there they were fain to abide among the Lotus-eaters, feeding on the lotus, and forgetful of their homeward way.

A REFLECTIVE WORKSHOP WITH THE GREEK SPIRIT
Remember the ancient Greek myth of Odysseus – an epic story about a king of Ithaca and his decade-long way back to his homeland. The war in Troy was over, but his journey only was only beginning. The next ten years he would spend on his way, in each adventure proving his determination to reach Ithaca by overcoming his numerous enemies and various temptations.
One of such temptations was the Lotus fruit, that was given to his comrades by the Lotus-eaters. Although meaning no harm to him and his crew, they could potentially put their journey to an end by making him forget about their goal. According to Homer, Odysseus recognized this danger and escaped the island, binding some of his crew members under the benches until they sobered up.
Of course, all of this is a metaphor, and although its meaning changes from era to era, it can be also applied to our (post-)modern everyday lives. We live our lives and set (even if only subconsciously) the goals that define our lifestyles. Sometimes we lose those goals from our sight. Sometimes we cannot tell ourselves, which of them is the most important to us. Sometimes we fail to define any goals at all.
Touching the Shadow: an Odyssey Journey is an introductory experiential workshop inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, used as a metaphor for personal direction and everyday inner patterns. Rather than deep psychological exploration, we will focus on awareness and reflection. You will identify what matters to you (your Ithaca), explore situations where you lose contact with the direction (remember the Lotus-eaters?), and recognize recurring internal resistance patterns that affect your decision-making and motivation.
The workshop combines guided prompts, individual writing, and optional sharing in a safe group setting. The aim is clarity and insight, not emotional processing or therapeutic work.
The aim is to leave you with a simple personal “inner compass” statement to support your future decisions.
