Samuel Fidget (22) is the silent type. He doesn’t speak much—but he fidgets. He fidgets with his fingers, and in those fingers is a blade. Blink a bit too slowly, and that blade might end up in your neck. As the right hand of crime lord Logan Ahern, he’s a legendary madman in Aetherwick. So be careful not to make him mad.

And monster was born

Your father was beating your mother. Your mother was beating you. Your father was beating you. Your uncle raped you. Your aunt laughed at you. You grandmother watched. Grandad sing and drank and was merry, full of glee, in the dark dump, which could be barely called a home. So one night, you  got up and killed them all. First, a knife to your fathers throat. Then to mothers. Then uncles. Aunts. Grandmas. Grandfathers. Then you burned that house, and half of district together with it.

You wonder how many people died by your hand when you were only seven years old.

Church years

You didn’t have where to go. You found yourself on the threshold of church. The priest took you in. He was kind. Tried to talk with you, but you didn’t answer. He let you work on his parish, and read you Bible instead of lullaby’s. You loved the story of God’s vengeance.

There was a girl visiting the church every Sunday, in her nice dress. After every mass, there was a moment to play together. You run around the church gardens, nearby the river. Once, you were playing doctor – she might resist a bit, but you were stronger – , when her father came, horrified.  He slapped you bad, and then continued beating you with fist, until you were half dead. Then he carried you to the priest, demanding your crucifixion. The priest promised to take you to the police, and when the father left, he screamed at you horribly, demanding to pack your stuff and leave. So you came to your room, and packed your stuff, and visited a kitchen and took a knife and came to him from behind, and when he turned, you stabbed him to his guts, several times, until he bled to death in front of your feet.

Then you left, and you walked the district, until you found where the girl lived. You sneaked in in the middle of the night, and killed the man who beaten you so bad, and you killed his wife as well, because she was about to scream. And then you found the girl, and almost killed her as well, but in the end you let her be. Her name was Grace

Meeting with the God

First, you thought about leaving the city. And you did. That’s how you saw the forest for the first time. You cradled yourself in the night chill, cited Bible, and spoke to the trees. And trees answered.

“What should I do?” you asked them.

“Return to thee,
and spread faith in me,”

the tree answered, and you knew you are talking with the god.

“My name is Puk, Puk is my name.”

That’s how you learned God’s secret name is Puk.

“Kill in my name, and spread my fame.
You are my fist. You are my hand.”

The God helped you to survive that cold night, and the next day, you returned to Aetherwick, to spread the faith in Puk… by killing.

Street rat

For a while, you lived in a street. You stole for food. You run if someone was too big, and then you did your best to track them down, and kill them when they couldn’t resist. You terrorized other kids of your age, who might have been tough, but not “I-am-going-to-gut-you-if-you-look-at-me-in-a-wrong-way” kind of tough. You were mad, and you were well aware of it. Or… you were tougher than others. And that was what was necessary. You were falling asleep alone, and instead of fairy tales, you whispered parts of Bible, as it was the only story you ever heard, and you remembered them well.

Every Sunday, you were going to church, even though you didn’t understand much what they were saying. You liked the singing. You liked the crowd. You like the word of God, and how he was punishing those ho crossed him.

Returning to Grace

It was in church of Elliot Gregory where you spotted Grace again. She didn’t see you. So you followed her, and learned where she lives. You felt what you want to do, even though you were not giving it any names. As the night fell, you sneaked into her room. She was sleeping next to a smaller kid, a boy. You put a knife on his neck and signalized her to be silent. Then you lifted her skirt, and finished the doctor’s game you started long time ago.

Then you left. Whenever you felt urge, you came back. It could be the next day, it could be the next month… time always had a little importance to you, you just did as you felt.

Until things started to change.

Logan

When you were fifteen, you met him for the first time. He was walking the street. You tried to steal from him. He grabbed your hand. The way he looked into your eyes told you there is a man as mad as you… and for the first time, you felt something like fear.

He let you go, but you followed him. You observed his habits. You watched his style. You tried to sneak on him in night, but he woke up the moment you sneaked into his room, and you knew… you will never get this men unprepared. Not with a dagger… and it was the only weapon you knew.

When you were seventeen, you saw Grace with another man. You came for him with a knife in your hand, expecting to solve it quickly. Instead of that, that man beaten you badly. His name was Arnold Shea. You tried to attack him again in the middle of the night, but again, he woke up, defeated you in a fight, and almost killed you. Almost, but didn’t finished you, because as he said, he was a Christian, and Christians doesn’t kill.

Half dead, you dragged yourself in front of Logan’s door. The luck was on your side – he stepped out the moment you crawl to him. He took you to doctor Bruno Turner, who put you on your feet. You admitted to Logan who it was who almost killed you, but as soon as you were on your feet, you sneaked out to attack Arnold for the third time.

This time, Arnold thought he killed you. Logan found you on his own, and carried you to Bruno again. When you came to your conscious, Logan gave you a choice: “You can work for me, but you have to promise, you won’t attack anybody unless I order you so. Or I will kill you right now.”

” I will,” you answered. “But one day, I will attack you.”

“I know,” he said.

That’s how you became his right hand man, and the most feared killer in the whole Aetherwick.

Work for Logan

Ever since you started to work for Logan, you had to became craftier then you were. It wasn’t only about killing, it was about reaching those with the best protection.

Dart‘s family was hard, as they were rich, and they had a great protection, but when they went for a boat ride, you sneaked in as a crew member, sabotaged the ship, and left in the only jolly boat left.

Hughie McMillian was even tougher, because the man had a heart of a soldier, but you got an idea to bring a sickness on him. You went to the forest where you met your god for the first time, and you prayed to him.

“If secret is read,
disease will be spread,”

God answered, and you told him a secret of your master – that he slept with McMillians wife, and that his daughter might be actually Logan’s daughter. And as the God promised, McMillian fell sick afterwards.

Regular life

Arnold and Grace married, and they have a kid. A funny thing happened: Grace asked you to go as a godfather to the kid… and you agreed. It is a peculiar feeling. All you know there is a little creature to protect, so you are carrying it gifts, and you are carrying gifts to Grace, and you are dreaming about the moment Arnold will die, by your hand, or other way, and Grace will be yours again, and you will be a father to this kid. From some reason, it is important.

Confessing your actions

You don’t know much about God, but you know are expected to go to confession. It makes sense. The God needs to learn somehow what you did in its name. So every now and then, you go to the priest Elliot Gregory, and you tell him everything you do, in all graphical details. He seems to be terrified by it, and refuses to give you absolution. You don’t understand why; you should get a blessing for your God’s work, no? Or maybe you don’t understand properly what the absolution means. In any case, he is only a servant of a god, while you are his first on Earth, and it is enough to put it to his ears so God hears it, and celebrates how greatly you are doing.

Merrill Collins (crime lord, 42)
Main competitor of Logan. She has strong protection, so it would be difficult to kill her. Still, you are waiting for the order. You’ve considered the possibility of marrying her to form an alliance—or to get close enough to strike.

Claudia Knight (22)
Merrill’s right hand.

Hughie McMillian (merchant, 55)
A stern, tough old man. You once prayed for him to fall sick—and he did.

Bruno Turner (doctor, 40)
A skilled doctor who has patched you up many times in the past. You like him. He seems to be the only person who has never judged you. You sometimes wonder why he helps you. Maybe he just wants to see what happens next.

Ruby Conray (doctor, 30)
A competent and affordable doctor—but she dislikes you, and the feeling is mutual. You only go to her when Turner isn’t available.

Grace Shea (20)
You would do anything for her. You would even kill her, if she tried to leave you—though something stops you. She belongs to someone else now, married to the man who nearly killed you. She has a daughter, and you—of all people—became the child’s godfather. The path of God is strange indeed.

Arnold Shea (25)
Your main enemy. Your rival. Your nemesis. He has beaten you more than once. You tried to kill him—three times—and failed. But you promised Logan you wouldn’t attack anyone unless he orders so. And now you are the godfather to his child. Somehow, you’ve ended up watching over their safety. How ironic.

Logan Ahern (42)
Your master. Your savior. Your mentor. Your target. You admire him. You respect him. You know you will kill him one day. That is the way of the world: the strong devour the weak. At least, that’s what he taught you. You’re just waiting—for the moment when you are strong enough, or he is weak enough—and then you’ll take the crown.

1. Claudia Knight might be the daughter of Logan Ahern.

  • Knows: Nobody for sure. Logan may suspect it. You (Samuel) are quite certain based on timing and parentage.

  • Shouldn’t find out: Merrill Collins, Hughie McMillian, Claudia herself

2. The true name of God is Puk.

  • Knows: You

  • Shouldn’t find out: church, public

3. You killed Arthur Dart’s family.

  • Knows: You, Logan Ahern

  • Shouldn’t find out: Arthur Dart, the police

4. You caused Hughie McMillian’s sickness via supernatural means.

  • Knows: You, Logan Ahern

  • Shouldn’t find out: Hughie McMillian

5. You have raped Grace Shea and kill her family

  • Knows: You, Grace, possibly that kid who was present.

  • Shouldn’t find out: Arnold Shea, police

1. Replace Logan Ahern
It is your long-term goal to take Logan’s position—but only when he becomes too weak to stay on top. As long as he remains stronger than you, you respect him. When he gets weak – you strike and kill. Until you get rid of him, you won’t break your promise: you will not kill anyone unless he orders it.

2. Protect your goddaughter and her family
You keep your promises, as the God ordered. You swore to be like a second father to Grace’s daughter, and you intend to keep that vow. You will protect her, and by extension, protect Grace and even Arnold—your enemy—because they are now part of her world.

3. Win Grace back
You still wish Grace could be yours again. What you feel for her is as close to love as you are capable of. She has to be yours again.

4. Serve Puk, the God who speaks to you
You were chosen by Puk. You are his fist, his voice, his hand. You follow his will without question—even when it means spreading sickness, committing murder, or invoking fear. Spreading his name is your divine mission, even if the world would call it madness.

5. Prove you’re stronger than anyone else
You don’t just want to survive—you want to dominate. You’ve lived through horrors that would break anyone else. Power is proof that you were right all along: only the strongest deserve to lead, and weakness is unforgivable.
